"To rest is not to be idle. It is to begin again from a different place." — Byung-Chul Han
Gutter Philosophy
Sleep has a tendency to be overrated by health apps and underrated by creatives. (I am not at all talking about the band Sleep, who cannot be overrated.)
"I can sleep when I'm dead."
For me it's always the hardest part — finding the right balance. I'd love to get up earlier and stay up late to get all the stuff on my plate out there. Acing the day job, acing the creative stuff, listening to music, reading, educating myself. Having fun and enjoying my life — and being the guy and partner I want to be. Which includes keeping the house, the car, and myself clean.
Now tell me: how many hours does a day have? And what's the appropriate measure of sleep? How do the people I admire do it?
These riddles will stay with me until I solve them.
Until then it is consoling that resting, sleeping, is mostly beautiful and lets you start over from a different angle every time you're refreshed.
Or, as another great thinker put it:
"Every day for us something new — and nothing else matters."
